IVOM is the intravitreal surgical administration of medication. This means that various drugs are administered directly into the vitreous humor of the eye using a small cannula.

This type of therapy is used for various diseases of the retina and the point of sharpest vision (macula). Most often, fluid retention in the area of ​​sharpest vision (macular edema) is treated. Diseases in which macular edema can occur are e.g. B. the wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a blockage of venous blood vessels of the retina, diabetes mellitus or new vascular formations with high myopia or inflammation.

The distances between registration, examination, preparation and the actual IVOM in the operating room have been shortened to a minimum. Whereas in the past the registration, the diagnostic equipment (autorefractor with eye pressure measurement, OCT macula), the examination and the intervention were sometimes carried out on different floors, these tasks could be combined in one area in the new IVOM center.

The rooms are arranged directly next to each other in a semicircle. First the patient enters the registration area. In addition to the formalities, all necessary equipment examinations can be carried out there. A connecting door takes the patient directly into the doctor's examination room. From here a second door leads into the waiting room, which in turn is followed by the surgery room.
