General information about the practical year
Info event
Before the start of the respective practical year classes, there is an information event in which the various departments of the clinic are introduced and questions are answered. Immediately at the beginning of the practical year, the new practical year students are welcomed in the lecture hall of the eye clinic by the dean of studies and the practical year officer and informed about the course of the practical year.
PJ teaching award (€ 4,000)
Every year the FY students can propose assistant doctors or younger specialists for the FY teaching award who are particularly committed to the training of the FY students. The candidate with the best teaching concept receives the award at the Faculty's graduation ceremony. This is donated by the Willy Robert Pitzer Foundation, Bad Nauheim.
PJ Instructional LOM
The Medical Faculty of Saarland University provides € 50,000 each year to improve the practical year. The individual clinics can submit projects that improve training in the PJ. Selected projects are then supported by the "PJ Lehr-LOM".
Expense allowance (500 €)
The Saarland University Hospital grants the practical year students an expense allowance of € 500 per month during the practical year.
SAP access + hospital ID card
The FY students receive their own access to learn processes such as writing doctor's letters as well as an ID card like all employees of the UKS.
Apartment / accommodation
There are 4 student residences in the vicinity of the UKS. In addition, there are various possibilities to find a nice room or a nice apartment privately.
Clinical evaluation
In order to continuously improve the teaching of the PJ, regular evaluations of the individual clinics are carried out. With their feedback, the students can contribute to the optimization of teaching in the individual clinics.
SHAM exams
At the end of their term, the students can take a SHAM exam in the respective clinics, in which the exam situation is simulated, so that the students are optimally prepared for the 3rd state examination.
