Since 2015, the Medical Faculty's "PJ Teaching Task Force" has been working to sustainably improve the training of medical students in their practical year. The initiative is represented by the Director of the Department of Ophthalmology, Prof. Dr. Berthold Seitz, the Student Affairs Officer for Studies and Teaching, Dr. Dominik Monz, the Dean of Studies, Prof. Dr. Norbert Graf, and the student Ann-Kathrin Asen. With a ten-point program, the initiators succeeded in creating a motivational boost for good teaching during the practical year. During this one-year training at the university hospital, students should be able to apply their knowledge in an optimal practical way. Part of the concept of the "Task Force PJ-Teaching" is the comprehensive evaluation of the individual clinics and teachers. In this process, students and teachers give their feedback on how to optimize teaching.
In addition, the teaching program has been revised and made more visible on the web. New flyers and brochures provide comprehensive information about the practical year, and students can obtain information at an early stage at internal events. Organizational processes have also been improved; among other things, representatives for the practical year have been appointed in each clinic. In their practical year, a new medical ID card and a financial allowance for medical students have been introduced. In order to prepare optimally for the third state exam, students can take an exam in which the exam situation is simulated. In addition, the individual clinics can submit projects with which they want to further improve the training in the practical year; selected projects are financially supported by the Medical Faculty.
