For more than 60 years, the Ophthalmology Clinic at the Saarland University Hospital UKS kept handwritten paper files. Growing documentation requirements, rapidly increasing electronic diagnostic data, overcrowded archives and the files often not where they were needed at the moment - these were the main reasons for the introduction of the electronic patient record (EPA).

Why FIDUS?

Factors such as the visual design of the electronic files, user friendliness and reference installations of the software in other clinics were decisive for the choice of FIDUS from Arztservice Wente GmbH as EPA software.

The EPA was specifically adapted to the requirements of the Clinic for Ophthalmology at UKS in order to guarantee standardized and smooth documentation and patient care in all clinical areas.

Seamless integration into the clinic information system (HIS) and network-compatible diagnostic software were essential, along with prompt digitization of the existing paper files.

Results

After a 1½ year preparation period with targeted adaptation to the requirements of the Ophthalmology Clinic, we successfully introduced the electronic patient record FIDUS in January 2016 and are continuously developing it.

FIDUS receives all patient master data from the HIS and examination data directly from electronic diagnostic devices via interfaces. When a patient is re-presented, paper files are digitized in compliance with data protection and law and stored in the electronic archive with direct access via FIDUS.
