Before the operation
An ophthalmologist provides the patient with extensive information about the required procedure. The options for anesthesia are discussed and the surgical procedure is decided together with the senior physician. Of course, the general state of health is also queried. The patient is asked in advance to bring a list of the medication they need every day.
After completing the examinations, an appointment will be made for the operation. If this is done on an outpatient basis, the nurses will inform you of the exact time of arrival at our home one day before the operation.
On the day of the operation
The patient arrives - if possible - with an accompanying person or a taxi / public transport at the agreed time and registers at the appropriate ambulance. Then the eye to be operated on is widened with eye drops and the blood pressure is measured. If necessary, medication can be given to relax or to calm you down. For the operation, the upper body is dressed in a shirt.
A hearing aid on the side to be operated on must be put down, as irrigation fluid is used during the operation and the device can be damaged as a result. A denture can be left on with local anesthesia. Jewelry should be avoided on this day. For reasons of hygiene, we ask you not to put on make-up on the day of the operation.
The surgery
After being received by the eye surgery team, the patient is brought to the operating room by a nurse. Eye surgery is performed in the supine position. If you have back problems or pain in the cervical spine, we have various positioning aids to make the operation as comfortable as possible. The direct preparation for the operation now begins in the anteroom of the eye surgery. After checking the anesthesia, the eye is rinsed with a disinfectant solution and the patient is then driven into the room.
After disinfecting the eye again, the head is covered with a sterile cloth. In the case of claustrophobia, we can glue the drape so that the patient also receives an air tunnel next to the air tube. The surgeon performs the procedure under a surgical microscope.
After the surgery
After the operation, the patient is given an eye bandage and the nurses take care of them for around 30 to 60 minutes. If everything is in order afterwards, nothing stands in the way of leaving the clinic with an accompanying person.
