The clinic for ophthalmology offers the focus on "ophthalmic trauma". Experienced specialists can primarily treat serious injuries around the clock and try to reconstruct the eyeball internally within 100 hours using sophisticated techniques.

Thanks to the corneal bank established at the Clinic for Ophthalmology for almost 20 years, it is usually possible to treat severe burns or chemical burns by means of amniotic membrane transplantation or corneal transplantation. Bulbus bursts, eyeball contusions, perforation or penetration injuries z. Ophthalmic traumatologists, sometimes with foreign bodies in the eye, take care of the latest findings and treat them in an interdisciplinary manner.

We also offer pole-to-pole surgery. In addition to vitreous and retinal surgery, ciliary body surgery, the reconstruction of the iris and the implantation of an artificial lens, the clouded cornea is also replaced by a clear donor cornea. This has become possible with the most modern vitrectomy machines and laser scalpels.

The ophthalmic traumatologists treat severe inflammation after trauma caused by bacteria or fungi with the latest medication locally, systemically and also as an injection in the injured eye in order to save the eyesight.

Our principle is: Preserve the eyeball and restore eyesight. This requires under three to five or more operations. We try to avoid removing the eye as much as possible.

In over 90% of the serious injuries, our specialists succeed in restoring an orienting vision or reading ability.
