On June 22nd, 2020 the new "emergency clinic" of our university eye clinic in Saarland was opened. The outpatient department is located directly opposite the main entrance on the ground floor and will provide direct outpatient care for emergency patients and patients "without appointment (OT)" during the day as part of the university outpatient clinic.

Emergency and unscheduled patients are no longer directed to the outpatient waiting room but to a separate area. A small team of a specialist doctor, a nurse and a typist take care of the patient and a decision can be made immediately whether they can receive sufficient outpatient care or inpatient admission is necessary.

By establishing this "emergency clinic", we can respond even better to the individual needs of the patients and thus provide emergency care at the highest quality level faster and more efficiently.
